Hello.

I'm Andrew Sellers.

Journalism

Writing

I have written stories about music, lifestyle, politics, education and people. From hard news to creative editorials, I have crafted many compelling narratives that inform, engage and inspire. Here are some of my favorites.

Milky Ways and Machine Learning: A Changing Classroom

A profile about a UNC-CH professor who teaches generative AI to prepare students for an AI-driven future.

Students Struggle with Laundry at UNC-Chapel Hill

An article about UNC-CH students' struggle with limited, broken, and overcrowded laundry facilities in dorms.

Mission: Escape

The story behind a UNC-CH student organization opening a brand new escape room.

Audio

Personally, I engage with media most through audio. I enjoy hearing the news from a unique, personable perspective. I strive to tell stories in the same way. My audio journalism reveals who I am even as I tell interesting stories anyone can enjoy.

LDOC with The Clef Hangers

A short audio story about a UNC-CH a cappella group's final performance of the year. You'll hear from two of the graduating seniors.

'Chirp'el Hill: UNC-CH Student Birders Observe and Conserve

A short audio story about The Avian Society, UNC-CH's student birding group. The society allows students to enjoy nature together while striving to stop bird window collision on campus.

Other Projects

Music

I'm a musician and songwriter. My main mediums are guitar and vocals. I've played in bands and solo. I love performing live and creating in my bedroom.

Fiction

Writing and reading fiction is one of my favorite pastimes. In my opinion, fictional literature can tell stories more human and powerful than any other medium. Some authors who inspire my work include Ursula K. Le Guin, Anthony Doerr and George Orwell.

The Girl with her Head in the Clouds

A short story I wrote in 2024. It won second place in the Moore County Writers' Competition.

Web Dev.

I have experience with HTML, CSS and JavaScript. I coded the site you're looking at now from scratch! I enjoy creating beautiful, functional websites that are easy to use.

Documentary

Documentaries may be the most impactful form of journalism. When creating mine, I was able to tell the story in the best way possible, including both audio and visuals. Though they are a lot of work, I would love to create more documentaries in the future.

Operation Iraqi Freedom: Firsthand

Watch my documentary about my father's deployment to Iraq in 2003-2004.

About Me

I'm a multimedia creative with a love for people and art. I'm a Tar Heel - class of 2026 - studying journalism and media. I've written for two local publications in my hometown of Southern Pines, North Carolina.

I love to create and tell stories. I believe that everyone has a story to tell, and I want to help them tell it. I strive to create work that is engaging, informative and inspiring.

To get a little more personal, I'm a pretty big nerd. Anything sci-fi or fantasy is right up my alley - Star Wars, The Legend of Zelda and The Lord of the Rings are some of my favorites. I dabble in visual art, where I usually lean toward drawing. I always enjoy spending time with friends and meeting new people. One of my most motivating goals is to be kind to everyone and make as many connections as possible.
